"A thrilling and dark tale about Black Magic" - Kataka Movie Review
This week’s Kannada movie release Kataka is thriller packed entertainer for all audiences. This movie is based on a true story from the incident that took place near the coastal area of Karnataka. It revolves around a family that just shifted to their native from Bengaluru. The super natural problems caused by Black Magic that the family face after shifting consists of the major plot of the film. This movie captures the cultural essence of the coastal area brilliantly which is a treat to watch.
The main characters of the movie are portrayed by Ashok Raj, Spandana Prasad, Shalaga Saligrama and Madhava Karkada. Little Shalaga has done an excellent job of acting and is definitely the star of the movie. Ashok and Spandana have performed really well in their respective roles and their portrayal feels very natural. The scenes between Shalaga and Ashok are showcased very well and the audience can relate to the pain felt by the father. Another show stealer of this movie is the character of “Appu” portrayed by Madhava Karkada who gives complete justice to his role.
The movie has some tense scenes and is more drama driven as compared to the horror aspects, but it does a good job of balancing both. The direction and music is done by Ravi Basrur which is excellent and catchy and you’ll end up humming the tune as you walk out of the theater. The Cinematographer is Sachin Basrur who has done a great job of showcasing the cultural practices of coastal Karnataka like Yakshagana and the local festival celebrations on screen. The visual effects shown in the movie are very well done and deserves a special mention, especially the CGI antagonist of the film “Kataka”, or the crab.
Overall this movie is a must watch for all audiences, do watch it in theaters this weekend!
