Journey of a dreamer from a Lyricist to an Actor – Dhananjay Ranjan
The Kannada movie ‘Kirik Party’ is making all good noise in the social media, thanks to its brilliant Trailer and songs.
Songs, especially ‘Belageddu’ and ‘Hey who are you’, have already turned into chartbusters. It’s the lyrics written by Dhananjay Ranjan that has added a touch of beauty to the magic created by the music director – Ajaneesh Loknath.
Dhananjay Ranjan has been a popular name in Kannada film industry since seven years as a lyricist and screenwriter. He had earlier penned the lyrics for ‘Komala Henne’ – a popular song from the critically acclaimed and commercially successful movie – “Godhi banna saadharana maikattu”.
Apart from writing lyrics, he has also stepped into the shoes of an actor in the movie “Kirik Party”.
Here is a tete-a-tete with the prominent personality Dhananjay for Creative Guyz.
1) HOW DID YOU MAKE IT TO THE KANNADA FILM INDUSTRY?
It was a dream for me since my childhood. I should thank Dinakar Thugdeep sir for recognising me and bringing me into the industry. With the film ‘Saarathi’, I could establish my identity in the industry. From being young associate to what I am today, I owe it to the industry and to all those who provided me with an opportunity to grow.
2) SO HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING IN ‘KIRIK PARTY’?
It was indeed a great opportunity for me to be part of this amazing movie and crew who have set revolutionary experiments in the Kannada film industry. ‘Kirik Party’ has set a record of sorts through its online trailer and songs. Director Rishab Shetty and Actor Rakshit Shetty, have once again proved that the industry is flourishing.
3) TELL US MORE ABOUT THE ‘SHETTY DUO’ AND THEIR WORKING STYLE
Rakshit Shetty is one of the best actors, directors and moviemakers to be associated with. Rishab Shetty is one director who is very patient and motivates each of us to give our best in the film.
Their commitment and dedication is inspiring. Auditioning 3000 people for the film ‘Kirik Party’ is not a small task and they ensured that the best ones were picked. The viewers have already extended their love towards the movie and we are really overwhelmed by the reception.
4) TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE IN THE FILM ‘KIRIK PARTY’
Just like any other comical character in the movie, my character named ‘Manja’ stands out in the film. He is funny, enjoys being with his college gang, and gets excited for things just like any other college going youth.
In real life I am completely different to what ‘Manja’ is. It was challenging for me to get into the role. I believe I have done justice to my role and will entertain the audience. The entire journey as ‘Manja’ in ‘Kirik Party’ was totally worth, refreshing and entertaining for me.
We always look at the number of views to determine a trailer’s popularity. But for Kirik Party, the bigger triumph has been the people’s reaction to it. It is being trolled, memes are being created and people are discussing the movie on various online forums.
5) ANY MEMORIES OF ‘KIRIK PARTY’ THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US
This entire journey has created a lot of memories which I would cherish for a lifetime.
During one of the song shoot for the film we had to face the bad weather as it was raining heavily. We braved the rain and the shoot went on. We all enjoyed it.
Fight scene in the college for the movie was another such memorable. As the entire film is based in an Engineering college we had to literally engage ourselves in a fight scene between students. I remember entire college had gathered around us thinking it was a real fight that was going on and were trying to calm us down. Later they were informed that it was being shot for the film.
6) LYRICIST, SCREENWRITER, DIALOG WRITER AND NOW AN ACTOR. WHAT’S NEXT?
To survive in the industry and to gain a good name is my dream. I would also want try my hands at direction. Hopefully I will be able to achieve my dreams.
7) YOUR MESSAGE TO ALL THOSE DREAMERS WHO WOULD WANT TO MAKE BIG IN THE INDUSTRY
Never stop dreaming. Be committed and work hard. Always understand that there are no shortcuts to achieve your dreams. It is just your dedication and willingness to face hardships that will take you there.
Keep one thing in mind – The Director is the captain of the ship. Follow his instructions and take his or her guidance.
